Obituary of Eugene Joel Lee
Eugene “Gene” Joel Lee passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 2024, at his Parsippany, New Jersey home, following an extended illness. He just celebrated his 90th birthday.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Gene was raised in upstate New York. He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana while in the Seventh Grade and also lived in Wilmette, Illinois before moving to Parsippany, New Jersey in 1973.
Gene earned his Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1956. He was a proud member of the Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity and met the love of his life, Maxine, while they were both undergraduates at Indiana University.
Following his graduation, he served in the United States Army until his Honorable Discharge in 1958. Later that year, Gene and Maxine married.
Gene began his career with Abbott Laboratories as a Sales Representative in 1958, ultimately becoming a District Sales Manager. Gene retired after a 40 year career with Abbott in 1998.
Gene was a longtime member of the former Temple Beth Am in Parsippany, NJ where he was President, Chairman of the Rituals Committee, Co-Chair of the Ways and Means Committee and sang in the choir. He was also an avid New York Yankees, New Jersey Nets and New Jersey Devils fan. Gene was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Maxine (nee Mages); two beloved daughters, Catherine Grayson and her husband, Kyle, of Fishers, IN and Barbara Dunn and her husband, Kevin, of Pompton Lakes, NJ; a dear brother, Raymond Lee of Prescott, AZ; and his two cherished granddaughters, Courtney Meyer (Andrew) and Taylor Weitzer (Andrew). He was also proud to be Liam Weitzer’s Great Grandfather.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 10:30 AM at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Road, Lake Hiawatha, NJ. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge, NJ.
