Ronald Allan Platt passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ following a valiant battle with lung cancer. He was 82. Born in Waterbury, CT., Mr. Platt had lived in Newark, NJ before moving to Belleville, NJ in 1967. Ron proudly served in the United States Marine Corps primarily stationed in Turkey and Cypress. During his service, he was deployed for the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 before his honorable discharge in 1966. He was an industrial electrician with the ConocoPhillips refinery, formerly Exxon in Linden, NJ for 30+ years before his retirement 18 years ago. Previously, he had worked as a tool and die maker with Duerr Tool & Die of Union, NJ. Ron was an avid fisherman, an overall outdoorsman, a motorcycle enthusiast and the #1 fan of his grandsons' sports teams. Some of his happiest days were spent with a fishing rod in his hands, cruising a back country road on his bike or sitting in the stands rooting on the Caldwell Chiefs. He is survived by his loving son, Steven Platt and his wife, Juli of Caldwell, NJ; two cherished grandsons, Nicholas Platt and Michael Platt of Caldwell, NJ; his three siblings, Sandy Tassello of South Plainfield, NJ, Barbara McLouth and her husband, William of Bushkill Township, PA, and Richard Platt and his wife, Betsi of West Gardiner, ME; a sister-in-law, Louise Platt of Fort Kent, ME; and his former wife and friend, Patricia Platt of Belleville, NJ. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Platt.
