Obituary of Ronald R Rafft
Ronald R. Rafft passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Newark, NJ, Ron was the son of the late Rocco and Mary (Procaccini) Rafft and one of two children who blessed their lives. After graduating from Barringer High School and completing his Bachelors degree from Seton Hall University, Ron was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Upon his honorable discharge, fate intervened when he returned home and met Flora Bellarosa in the neighborhood. The rest was history.
Ron and Flora fell in love and were married on July 20, 1969—a day when sparks flew across the world as mankind landed on the moon, and they sealed their union. Together, they settled in Towaco, NJ, and began their family a few years later.
Ron pursued furthering his education with determination, earning a master’s degree in Biology from Seton Hall University. He built a rewarding career with Bristol Myers Squibb, where he worked tirelessly for decades. Ron became head of Toxicology and then was promoted to Associate Director of R&D. He also had a number of US patents for his work in toxicology. Ron eventually retired and consulted for a little bit before spending more time enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
A man of many passions, Ron was an avid hiker and cyclist who found joy and peace in the great outdoors. He also had a talent for landscaping and spent many happy hours tending to his shrubs and rock gardens. However, his greatest happiness came from the time spent with his family, especially those who lovingly called him “Grandpa.”
Ron delighted in his grandchildren’s activities and milestones. His warmth, love, and unwavering support created memories that will be cherished forever.
Ron leaves his beloved wife of 55 years, Flora; his son and daughter in law Bryan and Amanda; his adored grandchildren Kayla, Sydney and Tyler; his sister Linda Scevoli along with other close family, dear neighbors and friends.
