Beloved uncle,
I don't believe you're gone; it must be one of your jokes, and you'll return to warm us with your mischievous stories and your unique talent to tell them each time with the same childish enthusiasm and the thousand shades of humor that only you know and can deliver.
I know that words cannot contain you, nor can place or time, and that you asked for your wings back, and God, who never makes mistakes, gave you angel wings to fly far away to paradise to spread love and laughter there.
We are very fortunate that an angel lived among us and generously bestowed infinite joy and smiles on everyone with his childlike soul.
The journey with you is an unparalleled experience and will never be forgotten. All of us, Rosie, the other angel of laughter and joy, your wonderful family, and us, will keep you in our hearts.
There is not a day when Melina doesn't say your name and your jokes. I don't bid you farewell because you haven't left; you are here among us forever.
Dimitris, Georgina, Melina Amentas

"I gather my senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch, mind, it's getting late now, the workday is over, I return home like a blind mouse, to the ground. Not because I got tired of working, I didn't get tired, but the sun has set...
I cast a final glance around me. Whom to bid farewell? What to bid farewell to? The mountains, the sea, the fruitful vine on my balcony, the cool water? To whom shall I entrust my joys and sorrows, the secret, tumultuous longings of youth? Where can I find a soul, wounded and unyielding, like mine, to confide in? In vain, all these descend with me into the ground.
I reach out, grasp the handle of the earth, to open the door and leave, but I linger on the bright threshold a little longer. It's difficult, very difficult, for the eyes, the ears, the insides to detach from the stones and grass of the world. You might say I am satiated, I am calm, I no longer want anything, I have completed my duty and I leave. But the heart still beats inside the chest, resisting, shouting: "Stay a little longer!"
Nikos Kazantzakis
For you, my beloved uncle, my wonderful and unique godfather! A bohemian soul, a heart that embraced the whole world. No matter how far away you were, you were always present in my life. And you always will be. I love you very much. Until we meet again!" Maria Nikolaos Amentas

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we must say goodbye to my father in law Gus Amentas.
I cannot properly put into words the admiration and respect I have for this man and what he meant to our family. His mastery and fluency in numerous languages, his love of all cultures cultivated from his years as a merchant marine, his vast knowledge of history, the way he told a story (of which he had MANY), his ability to read people in an instant, the loyalty and respect of his business partners, his fearlessness coming to this country with nothing and building and running a successful business. This was a man among men. Above all that was his tremendous love for his family and the generousity he shared with us all.
I can honestly say I enjoyed every cigar, every cognac, every tale told and every moment I was fortunate enough to spend with him. I will cherish it for a lifetime.
You will be missed beyond measure Dad.
